Temple St. Clair was founded by the designer, Temple St. Clair Carr in 1986 while living in Florence, Italy. Barneys New York discovered Temple St. Clair Carr's work and invited her to showcase her first collection exclusively in New York City. From there, her collections expanded to luxury retailers and soon became collectibles for an in-the-know connoisseur clientele across the country.
IT executives from Tiffany & Company, in collaboration with Temple St. Clair, selected Transition Networks to design TempleStClair.com. Transition Networks’ core business is based on design excellence and building technically functioning Web brands and businesses. The decision to engage Transition Networks was also influenced by their contract to conceive, build and market Steuben’s website—considered a benchmark for luxury brand success on the Web.
Challenge
Temple’s original website did not successfully represent the brand or inspire a purchase decision, or celebrate Temple’s reputation for and a classically modern sense of style or working with exceptionally rare colored gemstones.
Solution
Transition Networks delivered a site that reflected the branded essence of this important American contemporary designer. The site’s most striking visual element is the highly innovative use of exceptionally large graphic images of Temple’s jewellery. The creative invention reveals the extraordinary craftsmanship of Temple’s designs, communicates the opulence and perfection of her work—and effectively provides a “close scrutiny” opportunity for the site visitor that emulates the “bricks and mortar” shopping experience.
Technically speaking, the site works on all browsers and viewer types (to support global audiences with low-to-high resolution monitors and differing connection speeds). The site scales and “crumples” elegantly to accommodate various browser resolutions and preserves the same brand experience for all visitors. This is achieved through Randal Hunting’s innovative “crumple zones.” Also, Temple’s site was developed in Open Source LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and CMS solutions).
Transition Networks’ Web design solutions for Temple St. Clair set new standards for jewellery brands online.
